Context

This page highlights how I've demonstrated competency in context. Context relates to a thoughtful and relevant understanding of Art History and Contemporary Theory, and how this knowledge can be applied outside of the program. I have demonstrated context through an explanation of what art means to me, artistic work and internship experience, reflection documents that break down the meaning of a project, and apparency of art history influences in my work.

Art in my Life

Art has always been my greatest passion. To me, art is a way for me to express myself and ideas, take a break from reality, and allows to me to explore new boundires. I want to pursue a career in the Arts because I cannot imagine doing anything else.

Memorial Union Gallery Internship

Memorial Union Gallery Art Installation Internship October 14th and 15th 2022

My internship at the Memorial Union Gallery showed me the ins and outs of art installation, showing me the importance of curating which is knowledge I can now apply to future experiences with galleries and exhibitions.

Project Meaning

I further demonstrate competency in context by breaking down the meaning of a project. With this animation from 124, all we had was a word to go off of. I researched different approaches I could take this word with and then developed a narrative around my research.

I take great inspiration and gain knowledge through studying art history. I apply this history in my work, whether that be a technique, medium, movement, style, or studying the work of an individual artist as shown with this photograph of my sister titled "Lauren with the Pearl Earring".
